Clark Atlanta University’s Homecoming Saturday delivered everything Panther Nation hoped for: family, tradition, and a dramatic finish that shook 223 James P. Brawley to its core. Long before kickoff, alumni, current students, and future Panthers filled the promenade, sharing old memories, creating new ones, and soaking in the unmistakable Panther energy that makes Homecoming more than just a game.

Once the ball was kicked off, Clark Atlanta fed off that atmosphere immediately. The Panthers opened the first quarter with a confident and methodical drive that pushed deep into Allen territory. That momentum set up kicker Cedric Oglesby, who drilled a massive 52‑yard field goal, igniting the crowd and giving CAU an early 3-0 lead.

The Panthers held control until Allen responded with 7:30 left in the second quarter, punching in a touchdown to take the lead 7-3. On the next CAU possession, a costly fumble gave the Yellow Jackets the ball back, but the Panthers’ defense refused to fold. Allen’s offense stalled, and their missed field goal kept the score 7-3 Allen.

That defensive stand flipped the energy, and Clark capitalized. The Panthers marched down the field, finishing the drive with a powerful touchdown run by Trayvon Pinder, reclaiming a 10-7 lead and momentum heading into halftime.

Then came the grind. The third quarter turned into a defensive powerhouse, with both teams trading stops and big hits. Early in the fourth, Allen broke through with a massive dive into the end zone by Demetri Simmons, taking a 14-10 lead. For most of the quarter, the Panthers struggled to find rhythm until 3:03 remained.

That’s when quarterback Xzavier Jackson took command. With the Homecoming crowd roaring behind him, Jackson led a clutch and composed drive down the field. With eight seconds left, running back Dae’Jeaun Dennis bulldozed his way into the end zone, sealing a dramatic 17–14 CAU victory. The stadium erupted, and even the tailgate crowd overlooking the field exploded in celebration as the Panthers ended a long four year drought since their last Homecoming win in 2022.

Defensively, CAU shined. Eric Searcy anchored the unit with 10 tackles, flying around the field all afternoon. DeAndre Pridgett, despite being double‑teamed for most of the game, finished with four tackles and a huge tackle for loss, consistently disrupting Allen’s backfield.

Now sitting at 2–5, the Panthers carry major momentum into their next challenge: a road trip to Duval County to face 5–2 Edward Waters College during the Tigers’ Homecoming weekend.

The question becomes whether Clark Atlanta can turn this emotional Homecoming triumph into another statement win in Jacksonville at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Nathaniel Glover Community Field & Stadium.
