The Clark Atlanta University Panther’s fell to the Morehouse Maroon Tiger’s, closing just a few points shy in the classic AUC rivalry game, with an end score of 75-71.

The game tipped off to a slow start for Panthers, as they had nine turnovers in the first half. This made any chance at a comeback, far out of reach, as they would trail 16 points after the first half.

Missing free throws and second-chance point opportunities, gave the Tigers an edge over the Panthers.  The Panthers wrapped up first half with a free throw average of only 50% with only seven second-chance points obtained.

During second half, the Panthers forced a comeback, but the Maroon Tiger’s 20-point lead made the chance of the comeback being completed, difficult.

The Panthers leading scorer, Jalen Williams, played a key role in the team’s second half comeback, delivering a seamless driving lay-up.  Williams shot 47% from the field and 50% from the three-point line, ending the game with a total of 21 points.

Ny’Mire Little also put up advantages against the Maroon Tigers, with an impressive three-point average of 57%, one of which being shot with just 10 seconds left on the clock, lessening the loss for the panthers, ending the game with 17 points.

Given the large deficit of the first half, the Panthers had no lead time or tied time in this match up. The Panthers concluded with a total of 18 turnovers and 11 offensive rebounds but only scored for seven of them. Too many turnovers and not optimizing these rebounds swayed the game away from the Panther’s favor.

In post-game interview, head coach Alfred Jordan gave his remarks on today’s big cat match up. “Unfortunately, we went away from the plan and it cost us” Coach Jordan admits.

“Rivalry games come down to the most disciplined team…. taking undisciplined shots, undisciplined turnovers down the stretch was huge... our guard play must get better if we plan on playing at the level that I know we can.”
